The goal of the project is to raise awareness among young students on the theme of diversity
engaging them, stimulating reflection, and making them conscious agents of change within the school and social environment, dismantling the indifference that prevents us from embracing the richness inherent in the many facets of the reality we live in.
In fact, school inclusion does not happen only thanks to teachers and school leaders, but also thanks to pupils who play a fundamental role in facilitating the expression of the uniqueness and distinctiveness of every student, with or without special educational needs. This process represents an unmissable growth opportunity for everyone.
From an educational standpoint, we believe the contest experience is an important opportunity to reflect and stimulate awareness of one’s own perceptions, emotions, and any prejudices regarding disability and diversity in a broader sense. With the support of their teachers, students will be able to express their own ideas, collaborating and cooperating, thus shaping a stronger civic sense.
This year’s guiding theme is: “The news that isn’t there”
and it is based on the creation of an inclusion-themed school newspaper, a concept that today risks no longer being enough to define a sense of belonging that must involve everyone in order to feel part of the community.
The concept of inclusion, still very present in school terminology and immediately understandable for children, is used here as a starting point for a deeper reflection on the value of belonging: it is not just about “welcoming” those who are different—and anyway, different from whom?!—but about building together a community where every difference is recognized as an integral part of the group.
The project is promoted by UILDM – Unione Italiana Lotta alla Distrofia Muscolare (Italian Union for the Fight against Muscular Dystrophy), Mantua chapter, and the cash prizes for the top three winners along with the special jury prize are the result of contributions from the Rotary Club Mantova Postumia and our e-Club.
Because the true strength of a society is measured by its ability to walk together. Always. Leaving no one behind.
